The West Temple Library is a basic reference library for our congregation and school, and a Judaica Resource Center for the community-at-large.
The library is located off the main foyer, near the entrance to the sanctuary. Whenever the building is open, the library is accessible to all those who wish to use it, members and non-members alike. We operate on an honor system, with clear instructions on use and signout procedures posted. Help is always available on Sunday mornings during Religious School and on Mondays, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. throughout the calendar year.
Today the collection consists of approximately 7,000 items, including books and audiovisual materials. We receive 19 periodicals and the Index to Jewish Periodicals, The staff maintains an extensive vertical file of clippings, pictures and pamphlets. To inform the membership of additions to the collection, we publish an annotated New Book Column in our monthly Temple Bulletin. To make this collection as easy to use as possible, everything is fully catalogued, and we use a modified Dewey Decimal System-Books may be borrowed for 4 weeks. New books, audio and video cassettes may be borrowed for two weeks.
